If you’re thinking about buying a Nintendo Switch 2 console, wait a bit – a new model is coming

According to unofficial reports, Nintendo is planning to launch a new Switch 2 console model with replaceable batteries in Europe.

From the year 2027, the European Union will be subject to legal regulations according to which portable consoles must have removable batteries that can be changed. And it looks like Nintendo will soon adapt to that with its Switch 2 console.

The Japanese Nikkei reports that Nintendo is soon planning to launch a new Switch 2 model for the EU market, which will be able to change batteries within the console itself and the accompanying Joy-Con controllers.

According to (n) this legal provision, EU consumers should be able to change the batteries themselves, with publicly provided instructions from the manufacturer.

The provision covers portable consoles, but also other devices such as mobile phones. The goal of the European Union is to reduce the generation of electronic waste by 73% by 2030.
