Most often, it is the buyer who is deceived when buying used things. However, not in the case of an unusual robbery of a graphics card, which reminds us how crazy times we live.
When I was learning inflation at school, the teacher gave a vivid example that I remember to this day. “When you come across a basket full of money in a time of huge inflation, that basket is more valuable to you than all the money in it.”
For some reason it reminds me of the bizarre situation reported by Tom’s Hardware.
One guy sold a GeForce RTX 5090 graphics card for $4,000. At first it seems like he did well, but the customer immediately returned the graphics card and asked for a refund.
The seller quickly examined the returned graphics card and concluded that everything was fine with it. However, a closer inspection showed that its most basic components – the main core and the graphics – have been removed VRAM chips.
So we’ve gotten to the point where memory chips are worth more than the graphics card itself? What a time to be alive!
Supposedly this is quite a common scam technique these dayswhere fraudsters in the midst of memory shortages try to resell the parts of graphics cards that bring them the most profit. So if you are selling a graphics card – be careful not to sell it memory thieves.
