Tomb Raider developers announced the fourth wave of layoffs in the last year


The development studio Crystal Dynamics fired another 20 of its employees and they say that Tomb Raider Catalyst is not in trouble.

American studio Crystal Dynamics today he fired another 20 of his employees. This is their fourth wave of layoffs in the last 12 months. The team that had 273 employees in 2022 was thus cut by almost a hundred workers in the middle of the development of their next game, Tomb Raider Catalyst.

Crystal Dynamics says they are aware that news like this causes concern among fans, but they say they remain committed to the development of future Tomb Raider titles.

Eight years have passed since the release of the last Tomb Raider game. Since then, Crystal Dynamics has changed hands and passed from the hands of Square Enix to the ownership of the Embracer Group. However, the rights to publish new Tomb Raider games are with Amazon Games, which has also cut its investments in gaming. However, they also say that they still believe in the Tomb Raider franchise.

Tomb Raider Catalyst is planned for 2027, while before that we will get another remake of the original game from 1996, called Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis.
