top or side options are available again

Microsoft has officially confirmed the return of one of the most requested functions in Windows 11: the ability to move the taskbar to the top or sides of the screen and desktop.

This option existed in older versions of Windows, but was removed back in 2021, which caused great dissatisfaction among users. It is now returning as part of a wider strategy to improve the user experience.

The Windows 11 Taskbar is finally becoming as flexible as it used to be

According to the first information, users will be able to place the taskbar at the top, on the left or right edge of the desktop, while the standard position will still be at the bottom. The change will be made through Settings menu, but also directly from the right-click context menu, where all positions will be offered.

In addition, Microsoft introduces the ability to change the size of the taskbar. Unlike the existing solution, which only changes the size of the icons, the new option allows to reduce or increase the entire taskbar, similar to the older versions of the system.

These changes come in response to long-standing user requests and are part of a broader plan for 2026, which includes better performance, lower memory consumption, and more stable system operation.

At the same time, Microsoft plans to improve the Start menu, especially the Recommended section, so that the display is more relevant and useful.

While this feature is something that should never have been removed, its return is an important step towards Windows 11 finally becoming the complete and customizable operating system that users expect, reports Windows Latest.
