One of the world’s leading manufacturers of DRAM memory, the company SK hynix, has publicly expressed its view on the current global shortage of memory chips and the efforts being made to overcome the problem. According to their assessment, the DRAM supply challenges are the result of a combination of increased demand, disruptions in supply chains and industry restructuring, which has led to an imbalance between supply and demand.
SK hynix emphasizes that the demand for DRAM memory has increased in recent years due to the growth of the server, mobile device, AI applications and data center markets. At the same time, complex production processes and high investment costs in new production capacity limit the speed with which companies can expand production.

The company also pointed to the role of global factors, such as geopolitical tensions and logistical problems, which further undermined the stability of semiconductor supply chains. That’s why SK hynix and other manufacturers are working on optimizing production processes and increasing capacity to meet demand.

One of the priorities is investing in new factories and technologies that enable higher production of DRAM chips at lower costs per unit. SK hynix announced more intensive investments in advanced production lines and cooperation with partners around the world in order to reduce downtime and increase supply stability.
The company says that, although the lack of DRAM memory will gradually decrease, the full recovery of the market requires time and it is estimated that it will only arrive after 2027 because investments and the transition to new production technologies are long-term processes. For consumers and device manufacturers, this means that a more stable supply is possible only through continuous investment and adaptation of global supply chains, not through quick short-term solutions. In other words, hard for us end users.
For a more detailed explanation of the current strategies and projections of stabilization of the memory market, SK hynix points out that it focuses on long-term technologies and capacities that enable sustainable supply growth in line with growing global demand, Wccftech reports.
