Xiaomi CEO Lei Yun said at an investor event on Tuesday that the Chinese corporation plans to start mass production of electric vehicles in the first half of 2024.
According to Chinese media, Lei stated that the preparatory works on the electric car project are taking place ahead of schedule.
In September, Xiaomi announced plans to launch its first electric vehicle in 2024 and noted that it has completed the registration of Xiaomi Qiche, its subsidiary that will focus on producing electric cars.
Following today’s statement by the director, the shares of the Chinese company in Hong Kong increased by 4.92%.

As a reminder, Xiaomi revealed plans to enter the car market at the beginning of the year. It was announced at the time, the first Xiaomi car will be an SUV, an improved version of the compact model of the Chinese brand Besturn T77 (pictured).
Xiaomi’s SUV will most likely differ only in software, and it will also have Xiao AI artificial intelligence, which as a voice assistant will enable control of windows, climate, and other functions.
