Last Monday evening, a bizarre aviation accident occurred in Brevard County (in the federal state of Florida). Local police confirmed that it was a “multi-engine fixed-wing aircraft” that collided with a 2023 Toyota Camry. It was later found out that it was a Beechcraft 55 light twin-engine piston aircraft.
The 57-year-old driver was slightly injured in the collision, and was taken to a nearby hospital. On the other hand, the 27-year-old pilot and his passenger of the same age did not suffer any injuries. Due to the collision, the inner and central southbound lanes were temporarily closed, but traffic has since returned to normal.
Dramatic recording
The event was recorded by a car camera (dashcam) of one witness, who was right behind the center of the event. The video shows the moment the plane tries to make an emergency landing, flies directly over that vehicle and hits the Toyota in front of them. The driver stated that they saw the plane “falling out of the sky” and that they were seconds away from the plane hitting their vehicle.
Witnesses say they were hoping the plane would land on the side of the road or at least avoid the cars, but the plane’s wheel hit the back of the vehicle in front of them. Fortunately, the car did not overturn, but was crushed and thrown aside in the middle of the impact.
The investigation into the plane crash has been taken over by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), while local traffic police will conduct their own investigation into the accident. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is also expected to release a report on this incident.
