Audi has officially confirmed the imminent expansion of its electric family, which will be carried out with the launch of the A2 e-tron model. The brand’s CEO, Gernot Döllner, announced this innovation at the annual press conference, noting that the company is responding to direct customer requests for practical and reliable electric mobility. The new model is positioned as an entry point into the premium world of the brand with four rings, with a focus on everyday use in urban environments.
German production base
The Audi A2 e-tron represents the brand’s strategic foray into the compact segment, targeting a broad international customer base that prioritizes digital connectivity and a high level of efficiency. The name of the model deliberately evokes the memory of the original Audi A2, which more than a quarter of a century ago was a pioneer in the optimization of space and mass (although it was characterized by somewhat controversial design and technological solutions). The new iteration will continue its legacy, but in fully electric guise, adapted to modern environmental standards.
The decision to manufacture the A2 e-tron at the company’s headquarters in Ingolstadt underlines Audi’s commitment to transforming its European plants. According to Döllner, this model is key to preserving jobs in Germany and strengthening the brand’s domestic roots during the electrification process. This ensures that future “mobility made in Germany” remains competitive in the global compact electric vehicle market.
Premiere this fall
After an extensive initiative during 2024 and 2025, in which more than 20 new models were introduced, Audi now has one of the youngest portfolios in the industry. In 2026, the focus will be on the two extremes of the offer: while the large Q9 model will dominate the premium segment, the A2 e-tron will assume the role of leader in the compact class, making the brand more relevant to new, younger target groups.
Although technical details are still under wraps, the first published design sketch already offers a glimpse of the vehicle’s silhouette, which suggests an aerodynamic and modern approach. It is expected that this very design will be one of the main advantages in attracting users in large European cities where the demand for compact electric solutions is constantly increasing. The official world premiere of the A2 e-tron model is scheduled for the fall of 2026. Until then, Audi plans to continue preparing the production lines in Ingolstadt.
