Video game revenue has surpassed $200 billion a year for the first time


It is estimated that in 2025, video games of all forms will gross more than 200 billion dollars in total – the most so far.

Despite adversity and obstacles, the gaming industry continues to grow – at least in terms of revenue.

According to the estimate of the research company Newzoo, during the year 2025 the total revenues from video games amounted to 201.6 billion US dollars.

In addition to being the first time video games have crossed the $200 million mark in revenue, it’s also the big growth of 9.1% in relation to the year 2025.

Now, it will probably make you a little sad to hear how those revenues are distributed.

  • by far the most revenue was generated through mobile games – 56% of them, almost entirely through microtransactions
  • PC and consoles account for 22% of revenue, with 47% of that revenue going to microtransactions on PC and 30% on consoles
  • game sales account for 32% of revenue on PC, and 44% of revenue on consoles, with microtransactions and the rest going to subscriptions and game add-ons
  • 47% of total gaming revenue comes from Asia, 27% from North America, 18% from Europe, 4% from South America and 4% from Africa and the Middle East
  • The US is no longer the world’s largest market for video games – China has overtaken the US by $3.8 billion in revenue
  • it is estimated that in the future GTA 6 will carry the revenue growth on consoles, but that it will be lower than the growth of the PC platform and mobile gaming
  • it is estimated that the share of consoles in gaming revenue will continue to decrease in 2027 and 2028, while the mobile market will grow
