GOG.com was sold for 21.5 million euros


CD Projekt has decided to sell its game store GOG.com to its former co-founder, Michał Kiciński, for 21.5 million euros.

The DRM-free game store GOG.com has a new owner as of yesterday.

The company CD Projekt sold the ownership of the so-called Good Old Games to one of the richest Poles, Michał Kicińskiwho was also the co-founder of CD Projekt, and later GOG. Kiciński was in CD Projekt until 2012, and now he bought GOG for 90.7 million Polish zlotys, which would be approximately 21.5 million euros.

CD Projekt says that this move will allow them to fully devote themselves to the development of ambitious games (The Witcher 4 and Cyberpunk 2). And as for GOG, the store will still be independent and will to continue its DRM-free policy. It has also been confirmed that future CD Projekt RED games will be distributed on GOG.

GOG.com, or Good Old Games, was launched in 2008 and during its existence stood out for its specific attitude towards PC games. At first, games on GOG came with various bonuses such as wallpapers, music, digital brochures, etc. In addition to refusing to distribute games that are “always online” or use questionable protections like Denuv, GOG worked to bring some old games back to life, so even today some games that are not on Steam are sold there. Most importantly, GOG is the only PC game store that allows its users to buy the games themselves, not game licenses.
