According to the latest annual ranking, Apple took as many as seven places among the ten best-selling smartphones in the world. Over the past year, the question of which smartphones were the best-selling globally has come into focus again. CounterPoint Research has published a list of the TOP 10 best-selling smartphones in the world in 2025. Although the iPhone 17 series managed to be placed with two models, due to the fact that it was only on sale for a little more than one quarter, it did not manage to win the title of the annual winner.
According to the published list, Apple once again showed exceptional sales power, occupying as many as seven positions and completely taking over the first four places. The first place went to the iPhone 16 model, followed by the iPhone 16 Pro Max, iPhone 16 Pro, while the iPhone 17 Pro Max finished only in fourth place. The standard iPhone 17 took the seventh position, the iPhone 15 the eighth, while the iPhone 16e finished in the tenth place.
Apple and Samsung share the global TOP 10, but Apple leads convincingly
Counterpoint ResearchWhen it comes to the Android camp, all three models on the list come from Samsung. The best placement was achieved by the Galaxy A16 5G in fifth place, making it the most popular Android phone globally in the last year.
They are followed by Galaxy A06 4G in sixth position and Galaxy S25 Ultra in ninth place. It is interesting that the S25 Ultra is the only Android flagship on the list, which means that the Samsung S series managed to break into the global TOP 10 for the second year in a row.
In total, these ten models together account for about 19% of total global smartphone sales in 2025. Analysts point out that the iPhone 17 series, already in the first full quarter after its release, achieved sales growth of 11% compared to the previous generation. The standard iPhone 17 stood out in particular, which thanks to balanced specifications and price strategy became one of the most successful models of the year. Also, iPhone 16e records stable sales in Japan and the United States of America, further strengthening Apple’s position in key markets.
