After consoles from all major manufacturers have gone up in price, Valve has become the latest in a line to decide to significantly raise the price of its handheld PC.
Bad news is coming for anyone who was planning to buy Valve’s portable gaming device.
Steam Deck OLED got overnight price increase for both current models. From today, The 512 GB OLED model costs 779 euros (previously 569 euros), while for the strongest 1 TB model players have to spend as much as 919 euros (previously 679 euros).
More precisely, it is about a 38% price increase for the 512 GB model and almost 36% for the 1 TB model. The only consolation in this situation comes from the fact that both models are back in stock after a temporary shortage earlier this year.
Valve issued a brief statement on the product’s Steam Community page to clarify this unpopular decision. They point out that the device itself has not changed, but yes the new prices reflect the current state of rising component costs. This move actually just follows the broader trend of price hikes in the gaming hardware market that we’ve seen before with PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo consoles.
Unfortunately, this development of the situation does not give optimism for the prices of Steam Machine devices, which Valve is still not ready to reveal.
Prices are higher than ever before, and how serious the situation is is shown by the data of the agency Circana, according to which the sales of hardware and software in the USA recorded the worst November since the beginning of data monitoring. For illustration, the average price of new gaming hardware in the US in November 2019 was $235, while in November 2025, that figure jumped to as much as $439.
