Steam has launched a dedicated page for games that run well on the Steam Frame device. Which is not yet officially available for sale.
Valve launched the Steam Controller and Steam Machine in the previous months, and they have one more promised product left to prove that they still know how to count to three. It looks like that device should also become available for sale soon.
Steam Frame is a standalone VR headset that, in addition to playing VR titles, can also be used for launching or local streaming of classic PC games.
Although the device is based on an ARM64 processor, Valve is developing its own layer to “translate” Windows games for the ARM architecture, similar to what they have already done for Linux. Therefore, some PC games will be playable on Steam Frame without the need for a computer. And now we know we have an initial list of games that will be supported.
Valve has put together a special “Great on Frame” page where we can find a list of supported titles with optimal performance on Steam Frame hardware. The list is short for now and contains only a few titles, but it should be filled with new games over time. For now, two VR games are recommended: Into Black i Titan Isles, while the classic games are confirmed to be Portal 2 run on Frame without any problems.
There’s still no indication of when the Steam Frame might launch, and perhaps more importantly – at what price. We only know that the device will come with 16 GB of working memory and with 256 GB or 1 TB of storage space for games (depending on the selected model). Considering current memory prices and general VR headset prices, there’s no way Steam Frame will cost less than a thousand euros.
