The president of PlayStation stated that the new generation of Sony’s console will offer a gaming experience beyond the living room.
The next generation of PlayStation consoles could be conceptually different from all the previous ones. At least that’s how the recent statement of the president of the PlayStation branch, Hideaki Nishin, sounds, who explained that Sony wants to move the PlayStation away from the image of a device intended for playing in the living room.
“Rather than our console being a simple alternative to PCs, for the next generation of PlayStation we will aim to deliver value that is unique to PlayStation. This includes not only advances in technology, but also expanding the way you use the console, enabling experiences of natural use outside the living room.” – said Nishino.
For now, it is not entirely clear how Sony plans to achieve this. There have been rumors that we will see a new one in the future a portable PlayStation. Some also believe that Sony could “rewrite the homework” from Nintendo and deliver a hybrid console.
However, in the current situation, Sony doesn’t really have much room to maneuver with different ideas. The components are expensive, and even a classic gaming box that stands next to the TV is expected to cost more than 1,000 euros. Any device with a separate screen would only increase the already expensive amount.
It seems therefore that the PlayStation 6 could offer gaming outside the living room with another addition in the style of PlayStation Portal. Sony was surprised by the audience’s interest in the device and subsequently added new features, such as streaming certain games from the cloud.
Who knows – maybe this is exactly the solution to Sony’s woes? If the PlayStation 6 is going to be too expensive for most users, maybe offer them a streaming option on a cheaper, portable version of the console?
