The Swedish electric car brand Polestar, created within Volvo, is preparing the premiere of the luxury sports sedan Polestar 5 and occasionally publishes technical details. It has now been announced that this will be the first model of this brand on the new aluminum architecture whose development is taking place in the UK, with expertise rooted in McLaren, Aston Martin and Lotus.
Polestar’s British team for development and research started with only 81 employees in 2018, and by the end of this year it will grow to a team of 800 members.

The company, which is divided between Gothenburg and Chengdu in China, decided to build a large engineering center in Britain because it wants the Polestar 5 to be a worthy rival to Porsche Taycan not only in terms of comfort but also dynamic driving characteristics. Therefore, the decision was made to invest in the development of a completely new architecture and in workers who know how to achieve this.
The aluminum structure allows engineers to keep the weight of the car at a moderate level while creating recognizable proportions that are based on Volvo models. This method of chassis construction is applied by Aston Martin, so a similar level of rigidity is expected from the Polestar 5, which is a prerequisite for vehicle agility.
The battery will be placed low and will partially enter the passenger section at the rear end of the car, which we also find in the Porsche Taycan, but the Polestar 5 will have more legroom for passengers. This is in line with the sporty GT orientation of the model, which is expected to premiere in 2024.
