A Canadian streamer nicknamed Northernlion surprised himself by discovering that his monitor’s refresh rate was not set to the recommended setting.
Just a few days ago I was discussing with Igor how my experience is that I always end up manually setting the refresh rate for the monitor within Windows. Igor, on the other hand, says that Windows switches to him automatically refresh rate to the maximum monitor setting.
The ways of Windows are strange, and I’m not saying it’s not true, but the fact is that many PC gamers have found themselves in a situation where they buy a new monitor and only after some time realize that their image refresh rate is set to the lowest 60Hz.
This is exactly what happened to the long-time streamer under the nickname Northernlion. This content creator, who has gathered more than a million followers since 2010, realized in the middle of a live broadcast yesterday that he refresh rate 165Hz monitor set to 60Hz and never seen games run at more than 60fps. When he changed refresh rate at the appropriate setting, the streamer declared in amazement:
“This is amazing! It’s like I’ve switched to PlayStation 7!”
The streamer got the notification about running in 60Hz on a 165Hz monitor from Counter-Strike 2, not from Windows. Although it’s a bit bizarre that he didn’t know that it should be checked in the Windows settings refresh rate monitor, it is equally problematic that after so many years of 100+ Hz monitors, this kind of thing is still happening to Windows users.
