Rockstar Games has confirmed the rumor they previously denied. Grand Theft Auto 6 will be available only in a digital edition upon release. The physical edition of the game will be a code in the box.
Do you perhaps remember that rumor we heard earlier this year, that GTA 6 will not be available in a physical edition upon release? Publisher Take-Two Interactive denied this, but now it turns out that the rumor was partially true.
You see, GTA 6 will be available for purchase in the box. However, instead of a disc which you would insert into the console and install the game, in the box you will receive a code to download the digital version of the game.
As GTA 6 will surely weigh over a hundred gigabytes, downloading such a large amount of data does not harm you. Those who pre-order the digital version of the game will be able to start downloading a week before the release, from 12.11., but buyers of the boxed version probably won’t be so lucky.
Physical editions of GTA 6 on disc are expected to go on sale later, perhaps not even this year.
This is news that will definitely chill some players, with the information that the game will cost a little more than other games. The question will probably arise, why all this, and the answer is actually simple.
This way, Rockstar Games can control when the game will actually become available. Since there are no game installation discs, there is no fear of someone stealing a copy of the game or otherwise obtaining a copy of the game before the planned launch (11/19). Even if this happens with a physical release, the game will only be available for download if Rockstar gives permission to do so.
