The developers of the game Suicide Squad wanted to stop making games due to the forcing of the live service format


The developers of the failed game Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League shared their experiences on the game’s live service format. They say that after that they wanted to leave the world of gaming.

The developers of Batman: Arkham games got caught up in the development of that live service project and it didn’t end well, and a little clearer insight into why it happened was revealed by former employees of Rocksteady in a conversation with Bloomberg.

Game director Axel Rydby and designer Johnny Armstrong they discovered that the representatives of the publishing house Warner Bros got more and more involved in the design of the game the longer it took to develop it. They asked for the game to be designed for multiplayer, among other things.

“At that moment I got the impression that I was no longer creating a video game. I was following some table according to marketing analysis that no one could clearly present to us. I felt that it’s not the gaming industry I want to work in.” – said the director of Suicide Squad, Axel Rydby.

After the Suicide Squad game was launched with negative reactions from players, and the publisher Warner Bros. quickly decided to give up on it, designer Johnny Armstrong also thought that he was done with creating video games.

“It was like everything was drained out of me. I told myself I couldn’t do it again. I didn’t know if it was from my work in the gaming industry, but I felt myself bursting at the seams.”

“I think the video game industry has seriously lost its way. We used to have passion projects that you loved and you hoped other people would love them. Now that’s not the case anymore, now you just hope something sells and you make money out of it.” – says Rydby.
