McMurtry Spéirling PURE: car that drives on the ceiling available for orders

The British company McMurtry Automotive has officially presented the final production model of its electric single seater intended exclusively for the track – Spéirling PURE. After a decade of research and development and a series of prototypes, a model was created that delivers extreme performance, but with an emphasis on ease of use on the “plug and drive” principle.

The vehicle was developed at the company’s new state-of-the-art factory in the Cotswolds region of England. The prototype of this car already attracted worldwide attention when it broke the record at the Goodwood Festival of Speed ​​hill race in 2022, and in 2025 it also set a new best time on the Top Gear track, surpassing Renault’s Formula 1 car from 2004. That year, the prototype became the first car in history to drive completely upside down, i.e. upside down, on the ceiling.

95% new components

Compared to earlier prototypes, the serial Spéirling PURE contains as many as 95 percent completely new components. The main change concerns the powertrain, which now uses a new modular lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 100 kWh, instead of the previous 60 kWh. The car is equipped with new electric motors that send 1,000 horsepower to the rear wheels via an upgraded gearbox, while the regenerative braking system has been boosted to 200 kW. The cooling of the powertrain has been moved from the rear to the front of the vehicle, resulting in better aerodynamics and cleaner air flow through the rear tunnels.

The chassis and body have also undergone significant changes. The new carbon fiber monocoque chassis meets global motorsport safety standards, and the wheelbase has been increased from 2 to 2.2 meters. The interior of the cabin offers more elbow and legroom, entry and exit are made easier by wider opening doors and new secondary door hinges, while the offset A-pillar provides a wider field of vision. At the rear, you can see the new wing, under which there is a luggage compartment (enough only for a helmet and HANS accessory). The vehicle is also equipped with lights for night driving and signaling for the track such as turn signals and stop lights.

Top performance on the track

A unique driving experience is made possible by the patented Downforce-on-Demand technology. The system uses two fans that spin up to 23,000 revolutions per minute, creating a huge suction force under the chassis, which “sticks” the car to the road. The system produces up to 2,000 kg of thrust even at a standstill, allowing the car to achieve 3g of force when cornering and braking.

The steering mechanism and suspension have also been improved. The electric power steering has been replaced with a Formula 1-style hydraulic valvetrain for better steering feel, and suspension travel has been increased.

McMurtry designed the Spéirling PURE to break the trend of complicated maintenance for extreme performance vehicles. Only the driver and one professional person are enough to start it and service it on the track. The battery can be charged from 20 to 95 percent capacity on fast chargers in 20 to 60 minutes. As an option, customers are offered a portable McMurtry powerbank with a capacity of 100 kWh and an output power of 120 kW, which can be charged at any three-phase connection in the pit garage.

The car offers wide possibilities for personalizing the appearance, graphics and interior materials in cooperation with the factory designer. The starting price of the Spéirling PURE model is 1.15 million euros, plus local taxes, delivery and selected options. The first public display of the production car will take place at the Goodwood Festival of Speed ​​next week, while it will make its full debut at The Quail event on August 14. Deliveries to the first customers will begin at the end of the year.
