Belgrade gets a BYD Flash charging station, breaking the charging speed record at the premiere

We have already written about what BYD can do in the domain battery charging speeds of electric vehicles. Now we had the opportunity to experience it in Belgrade, live in our city.

FLASH Charging technology is clearly more than just a fast charger. As the experts who designed FLASH Charging explained to us, it is a technological ecosystem that combines an ultra-fast charger, an accompanying energy station and the second generation BYD Blade battery. This battery was created after six years of intensive research and development.

The special importance of the technology is reflected in the fact that it solves one of the biggest challenges in the development of electric vehicles. Until now, high battery energy density and extremely fast charging have mostly represented conflicting technical requirements. The engineers of this Chinese company managed to increase the energy density of the battery by 5%, at the same time significantly speeding up the charging process.

The result is a system that allows charging the battery from 10 to 70% in just five minutes, or from 10 to 97% in just nine minutes, with stable performance even at temperatures down to -30 degrees Celsius.

DENZA Z9GT electric car

The technological capabilities of the FLASH Charging system are demonstrated on the model DENZA Z9GT.

The fully electric version is equipped with a second generation Blade battery with a capacity of 122.49 kWh. This battery provides a range of up to 600 kilometers according to the WLTP Combined standard. Thanks to FLASH Charging technology, the Z9GT successfully combines a long range with a short charging time. This makes it suitable for longer journeys, which electric car owners rarely decide on.

The car was developed on e³ platformswhich integrates three independent electric motors, rear-wheel steering, Vehicle Motion Control system, integrated battery and body construction, as well as DiSus-A dual-chamber air suspension.

The total power of the system is 1,156 horsepower, doc acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes only 2.7 seconds.

Among the Z9GT technologies are the ability to maintain vehicle stability even in the event of a tire blowout at speeds of up to 180 km/h, a turning radius of 5.35 meters, a function throw the crabas well as remote parking via a mobile application.

The interior of the vehicle further confirms its premium character. A 17.3-inch central screen, two additional 13.2-inch screens, a 50-inch augmented reality head-up display, Google navigation, voice assistant and AI digital assistant are just part of the infotainment equipment.

The record for fast charging in Belgrade has been broken

In order to make vehicle charging as easy as possible throughout Europe, BYD organized the installation of several FLASH Charging stations in different countries. The first such was installed in Italy, in Bologna, as part of a strategy to expand the network of ultra-fast chargers.

As part of an international project Marco Polo Drive of Peace it was demonstrated for the first time in Serbia FLASH Charging technology, which makes it possible battery charging from 10 to 70% in just five minutes, or from 10 to 97% percent in just nine minutes. On this occasion, a record was broken in Belgrade – 97% of the battery was charged in 8 minutes and 54 seconds.

The demonstration was held using an electric model BYD DENZA Z9GTwhich travels from Rome to Hong Kong on a route of 15,000 kilometers through 12 countries in Europe and Asia. This journey is at the same time a test of the new generation of electric mobility and infrastructure for ultra-fast charging.
