Facebook’s Meta rebrand has arrived in the Play Store

One of the most important, more precisely, the strangest moments of 2021 was when it was Facebook announced a sudden name change. From that moment on, the company itself is known as Meta, which coincided with the news of its increased focus on this whole “metaverse” thing. In the weeks that followed, we began to see the new Meta name appear throughout Facebook’s app ecosystem. That wave has also reached the Play Store, and the company’s applications are now showing that they are coming from Target Platforms, Inc.

Earlier today, Meta apps were spotted, including Instagram, WhatsApp, and the Facebook app itself, which portrays Meta platforms as developers, not Facebook. All of the company’s Android apps will now be found under its brand new name, writes Android Police.

When Google rebranded its corporate identity in Alphabet in 2015, everything basically remained the same in terms of consumer-oriented branding. Everyone still knows Google as, well … Google.
