Motorola nowadays sells many interesting low- and mid-range devices at prices that are hard to beat, worldwide, but the Moto G Power family could be the brand’s king in the budget segment, especially in the very important US market where LG’s absence is probably most felt.
Following the rates of the Moto G Power (2021) that came after the G8 Power of 2020 and the G7 Power of 2019, it is expected to Moto G Power (2022) see the light of day in … well at some point next year, and with probably a great quality / price ratio.
In case you missed it, the 2021 Moto G Power surprised us all with its very unusual reduction from the Full HD + screen resolution of the G8 Power to a number below 1600 x 720 pixels.
Moto G Power Specs
Unfortunately, it does not seem that G Power (2022) will return to the 1080p mark, retaining the screen resolution of its predecessor, and may also accept an even larger “beard” and thus collect an otherwise slightly smaller screen size (6.5 instead of 6.6 inches) into an overall higher body.
On the other hand, the 6.5-inch screen will obviously support 90Hz refresh rate technology, which is not (yet) a standard feature in its segment.
The selfie camera is in the middle, not in the corners, the textured back of the device and the vertically placed camera system on the back, should help potential buyers to easily distinguish the new type from the old one. G Power (2022) looks pretty inconspicuous at first glance.
Moto G Power battery and camera
It is quite clear that the main sales advantages of this undoubtedly affordable device will not include any references to its appearance, but the combination of a primary camera of 50 MP and a battery of 5,000 mAh may be enough to attract a lot of interest from customers, at the right price.
Interestingly, it is expected that the mentioned 50MP rear camera will be monitored only by a secondary 2MP depth sensor, which means that Motorola could reject the 2MP macro lens, while it will obviously keep the LED flash.
Although it does not improve the cell capacity of 5,000 mAh G Power (2021) … and G8 Power and G7 Power, G Power (2022) should provide an impressive run time between (10W) charges, with the help of the aforementioned energy saving 6.5-inch panels and similarly energy-efficient Helio G37 SoC.
That’s right, Motorola plans to move from Qualcomm to MediaTek, and although the unpublished G37 sounds like a potentially faster processor than the P35 cited by Geekbench tests, we expect more modest overall performance compared to the Snapdragon 662 we found on the Moto G Power (2021) .
Moto G Power price
Of course, that means an unlocked Moto G Power (2022) could cost even less than $250 in the US with 64 GB of internal storage, 4GB of RAM, a good old headphone jack, a USB Type-C connection, pre-installed Android 11 software, one 8 MP front camera with f / 2.0 aperture and IP52 water and dust resistance. Let’s just hope that the use of MediaTek chipset will enable Motorola to announce this phone in the early phase of 2022.
