Netflix has ordered a feature series based on the Persona games

Another adaptation of a successful Japanese video game series is coming. Now it’s the turn of the Persona series.

We know that Netflix is very fond of adaptations of Japanese franchises. In the context of video games, we already had series based on gaming franchises such as Castlevania, Devil May Cry, Dragon’s Dogma, Onimusha, Tekken, Resident Evil and others. However, there are a bunch of series that have not yet appeared on Netflix, so it is not surprising that adaptations of the series are currently being worked on. Persona into a feature TV series.

As Variety has learned, Christopher Monfette, who will be the show’s host, executive producer and screenwriter, was given the task of directing Persona. It is mentioned that Toru Nakahara from SEGA, which owns the Persona series, will collaborate on the series.

For those who don’t know, Persona is based on the idea of Japanese schoolchildren who lead ordinary lives by day and become fighters against supernatural threats by night. The main series has had a total of five games so far (a sixth is currently in development), and each one was separate with specific characters.

In its 30 years of existence, Persona games have sold in 30 million copies.

It is interesting, however, that the adaptation of Persona into a TV series was tackled by an American team. Persona games are *very Japanese* in their spirit, style, atmosphere, so the big question is how it will be transferred in a western production.

However, this does not automatically mean that the series will be a total failure. Another *very Japanese* series Like a Dragon / Yakuza got its own Japanese-produced mini-series, but you’ll hear from fans that it would have been better if that series had never happened.
