Company Samsung further simplifies the connection of smart devices within its SmartThings ecosystem. After earlier integration with IKEA solutions, users no longer need to use a separate IKEA hub to connect devices. Now it is enough to connect Samsung and IKEA devices directly to the SmartThings hub.
This change significantly simplifies the establishment of a smart home, as it eliminates additional hardware and reduces costs for users. 25 IKEA smart devices are currently supported. These include light bulbs, sockets, temperature and humidity sensors, air quality sensors, motion sensors, doors and water leak detectors.
One of the practical examples of use is connecting air quality sensors with other devices in the system. For example, when the sensor detects increased humidity, it is possible to automatically activate the dehumidification mode on the Samsung air conditioner, without the need for manual intervention. Of course, the more users explore Samsung and IKEA options, the more they will discover and use them. A special feature is the IKEA remote control with a wheel, which allows easy adjustment of lighting – such as intensity and color temperature – but also control of other devices, such as smart blinds.
Samsung and IKEA partner with Matter’s help
According to Samsung, the goal is to enable users to easily and affordably set up and use a smart home. All this regardless of the device manufacturer. This is precisely why the company continues to expand the ecosystem through partnerships and standardization.
An important part of this story is support for Matter standardwhich enables mutual compatibility of devices of different brands. This standard works through the Thread network and represents a key step towards a more universal smart home environment.
