Samsung phones regularly receive new versions of the One UI interface, Google Play system updates and upgrades of installed applications. However, even when the user installs all the offered packages, some important system components may remain on older versions.
Google is currently distributing three updates that improve the performance of Samsung Galaxy phones in the background. These are the Android System SafetyCore, Android System WebView and Google Play Services components. Their availability may depend on the region and mobile operator, but new versions should gradually reach all supported devices.
Important Google services in the background can remain on older versions
The latest versions available are Android System SafetyCore 1.0.925574157, Android System WebView 149.0.7827.91, and Google Play Services 26.22.33.
Google hasn’t published detailed change notes for now, so it’s not known what specific news and fixes are included in each package. However, it is recommended to install new versions so that the phone has the latest security patches, bug fixes and the latest stability improvements.
SamsungAndroid System SafetyCore provides the foundation for individual security features that run locally on the device, while Android System WebView allows apps to display web content without opening a separate browser. Google Play Services connects many Android features and apps to Google services, including sync, location, account sign-in, and security mechanisms.
Since these components mostly work quietly in the background, many users are not even aware of their existence. Even so, outdated versions can cause compatibility and stability issues, and in some cases can leave a device exposed to known security flaws.
Updates do not always appear together with a new version of the One UI system, so it is sometimes necessary to manually check for them. The procedure is not particularly logical because these components are often not seen among the usual applications in the Google Play Store.
For manual check it is necessary to open Settingsthen App and find each component by its name. On the page with information about the application, you should select the option “App details in store“, after which the corresponding page in the Google Play Store will open.
If a newer version is available, the button “UpdateChecking these components is useful after every major One UI upgrade, especially if problems with applications, displaying web content or functioning of Google services appear after installation.
