Netflix has released the official trailer for the new historical drama about survival “Against the Ice” starring “Game of Thrones” star Nikolai Coster-Waldau and “Gangs of London” actor Joe Cole.
The movie also known as En Soğuk Düşman produced by acclaimed Icelandic director Baltasar Kormakur (Everest, Adrift), is based on the shocking true story of the Danish Arctic expedition of 1909-1910, in which Danish polar explorer Einar Mikkelsen (played by Coster-Waldau) tried to establish an outline the real territory of Greenland by returning maps and diaries left over from a previous failed expedition.
Joe Cole plays Iver Iversen, a mechanic who joins Mikkelsen’s journey across the ice. Charles Dance (Game of Thrones) and Heida Reed (Poldark) also star.
The film was directed by Danish coxswain Peter Flinth (Beatles, Arn: Knight Templar). In addition, Nikolai Coster-Waldau co-wrote a screenplay with Joe Derrick based on Einar Mikkelsen’s memoir “Against Ice: A Classic Story of Arctic Survival.”
Against the Ice movie plot
In 1909, a Danish Arctic expedition led by Captain Einar Mikkelsen (Nikolai Coster-Waldau) attempted to disprove the United States’ claim to northeastern Greenland. This claim was based on the assumption that Greenland was broken up into two different parts of the country. Leaving his crew on board, Mikkelsen embarks on a journey across the ice with his inexperienced crew member, Iver Iversen (Joe Cole). The two men manage to find proof that Greenland is an island, but the return to the ship takes longer and is much harder than expected. Struggling with extreme hunger, fatigue and a polar bear attack, they finally arrive to find their boat crushed in the ice and the camp abandoned. Hoping to be saved, they must now fight to stay alive. As the days grow, their mental relationship to reality begins to fade, giving birth to mistrust and paranoia, a dangerous cocktail in their struggle for survival. Against the Ice is a true story of friendship, love and the power of companionship that evokes awe.

Against the Ice is scheduled to premiere at the 72nd Berlin International Film Festival February 2022. And you can watch it on the Netflix starting March 02, 2022 (United States)
