Owners of LG smart TVs are in for an unpleasant surprise after the Microsoft Copilot app appeared on their devices after the latest software update without any prior notice or option to remove it.
According to a post by a user on Reddit, the Copilot app is permanently pinned to the home screen and cannot be deleted. “When something this aggressive is imposed, it starts to get seriously annoying,” stated one of the users who commented on this move, while others agree that it is another example of how technology companies force AI functions that users did not ask for.
Copilot arrives on TVs without a clear explanation
Back in January, during the CES 2025 fair, LG and Samsung announced the integration of the Microsoft Copilot system into their smart TVs. LG then presented Copilot as an additional convenience for the new OLED evo models, but since then there has been no significant information about the implementation method.
Samsung began rolling out Copilot in late August to its 2025 line of smart TVs. On Samsung models, Copilot can be used via the microphone on the remote control, and provides show summaries, content recommendations and answers to questions such as the identity of the actors who lent the voices of the characters in the film or basic trivia information. In theory, this functionality can be useful, but only if it works properly.
Unlike Samsung, LG has not officially announced that Copilot has arrived on existing TVs. The company did not make an announcement even after media inquiries. According to information provided by Tom’s Hardware, Copilot on LG TVs functions only as a shortcut to the web version of the AI service, and not as an independent application within the system, as previously announced.
The Copilot icon, according to the available recordings, is automatically pinned to the home screen, which further increases the dissatisfaction of users who feel that the function is imposed on them without a choice.
