Divinity will be an isometric RPG with turn-based combat, it has been confirmed

Larian Games head Swen Vincke has shared the first details about their recently announced game Divinity.

The next game from the creators of Baldur’s Gate 3 was unveiled last week and it has been revealed that it will be Divinity. Not Original Sin 3, but definitely a return to the world that Larian Studios created back in 2002.

As the game was announced with a CG video without showing any gameplay, it was left unanswered whether it would be a turn-based RPG or if the series would return to real-time action. However, now we have received an answer – Divinity will be isometric RPG with turn-based combat just like the last three Larian Studios games.

Just like Original Sin 1&2, and Baldur’s Gate 3, the new Divinity will be single-player or cooperative game. However, unlike the Original Sin games, it will have a completely new “ruleset”, that is, the design of the rules that determine what is possible in combat.

As for the possibility of tailoring a personal story, Larian says that Divinity will slightly put their previous work in Baldur’s Gate 3 to shame and will offer “a much greater level of freedom”, which is why it is the most ambitious project they have worked on so far.

It will still be used for the game interni Divinity Engine but updated and upgraded. Larian says that they will now be able to achieve what they couldn’t until now, and that production in some segments is going faster than before.
