Microsoft is introducing significant changes to the Winodws 11 Updates system, which bring users significantly more control and flexibility when installing new versions.
As part of the latest Insider builds, users now have the option to skip installing updates entirely during initial system setup (OOBE). This means that the computer can be used immediately, and upgrades can be postponed for later, which significantly speeds up the first start of the system.
Windows 11 updates are no longer required immediately
An even more important change relates to pausing updates. Windows 11 now allows a pause of up to 35 days, but no limit on the number of repetitions. Practically, the user can delay updates indefinitely by continuously extending the pause period. This is especially useful when a new version brings potential problems, so users want to wait for a more stable patch.
In addition, Microsoft also changes the way the system behaves when shutting down or restarting. “Shutdown” and “Restart” options will now always be available without being forced to install updates immediately, solving a long-standing user frustration.
More detailed driver information has also been announced as part of the update, so that users know exactly what is changing, which until now has often been a problem due to a lack of transparency.
