When I heard that there is a movie starring three popular big Hollywood stars, I was genuinely thrilled with it. Towards the end of the year, big headlines don’t just show in theaters every week. Even Netflix then usually picks up very difficult projects. Streaming service here likes to go two ways. One half is made up of more sophisticated films that should bring great prestige and ideally one or the other film award. In 2021, for example, it will be “Die Hand Gottes” and “The Power of the Dog”. The other half consists of works whose greatest ambition is to attract as many people as possible to the screens in the shortest possible time. “Red Notice” is one of those movies whose whole point is just to increase the number of subscriptions.
The work is said to have ended up costing about $200 million, which is Netflix’s most expensive production to date. Much of it should have belonged to the trio of actors: Dwayne Johnson, Ryan Reynolds, and Gal Gadot, you have to afford it first. Even before filming, there was real competition for “Red Notice,” even then the power of the star was probably crucial to the great interest in the material. After all, Johnson was involved from the start. Director and screenwriter Rawson Marshall Thurber was also involved, an established filmmaker who had previously collaborated successfully with The Rock (Central Intelligence, Skyscraper) on several occasions. That always sounds good.
Special Agent John Hartley (Dwayne Johnson – Jumanji: Next Level, Moana, etc.) was an FBI profiler who worked alongside Interpol agent Urvashi Das (Ritu Arya – TV series The Umbrella Academy, Season 2, etc.). They were trying to catch an international art thief, Nolan Booth (Ryan Reynolds – Free Guy, Detective Pikachu, etc.) who was trying to steal an ancient treasure.
However, it was not so easy to catch Booth, especially with the interference of his main competition, Bishop (Gal Gadot – Wonder Woman, Criminal, etc.). Things got complicated when the owner of the ancient treasure was a notorious criminal, Sotto Voce (Chris Diamantopoulos – The Three Stooges 2012 film, etc.).
So how would the story end? You can find them all in this fun action-comedy.
Red Notice Review
Now that was fun! This was a typical Hollywood action-comedy starring three very popular names in the industry today. The movie didn’t require too much thinking from us and all we had to do was just sit back and enjoy the ride. The story started brightly and it didn’t take long to get to the good part. After meeting Hartley and Booth, it was non-stop fun, especially with Booth’s incessant wise comments and his chemistry with Hartley.
I liked the way the story was told and the obvious sequence of action. There were plenty of them, from hand-to-hand combat, car chases, shootings, and various explosions. Still, it should be noted that the actions were of the entertaining type, not violent, which would explain the rating for PG 13. All the actions involving the main stars were perfectly performed, no doubt their previous experience of acting in action movies helped.
This film felt like a combination of many things that were used in other successful films. Some robberies, treasure hunts, and other known formulas were involved. There is also some beautiful music that will accompany us. There were even more surprising twists that could mostly be hit (while I could only guess half), although there was one shocking twist that is hard to guess.
“Red Notice” movie is an action-comedy, I think this one is really good. The action was cool (understandable given the huge budget he had) and we liked the jokes. There was one scene involving a hat on his head. We both thought it was because of intelligent humor writing. The film was written and directed by Rawson Marshall Thurber who had previous experience directing Dwayne Johnson in Skyscraper and Central Intelligence plus comedies like We’re the Millers and several others. The 118-minute duration was kind of really nice. It didn’t seem too long or too short. Btw, there was no middle or post-end credit scene here (except for 1 sentence uttered near the end of the loan).

All in all, this was a fun movie. The type of blockbuster we would normally watch in theaters, but luckily we were able to see it via streaming very early on. The action, comedy and excitement of watching these 3 big stars were truly enjoyable. I would be happy to see a sequel to this film if they so choose, after all, the ending seems to have given such a hint. So if you just want to have fun watching this type of movie, then you are welcome to watch it on Netflix. As long as you are happy with these qualities without worrying about other things, the film should entertain you. IMDB Movie Rating: 6.4 / 10
